Roll Force Cylinders
For over 20 years, the metals industry has been optimizing production throughput by means of roll force cylinders in the manufacturing of sheet and bar stock. Over time, the cylinders wear and begin to leak. Replacing cylinders is certainly not cost efficient, but rebuilding like new is in most instances.
Since 2003, Service Guide has been the preferred one-stop shop for rebuilding cylinders. Once we receive your cylinder, initial testing, dis-assembly, and inspection of all parts, supplemented by a comprehensive report of our findings. Pistons and cylinders are then re-machined, plated and polished to restore them to their original manufacturer’s specifications.
All perishable items such as seals, O-rings, and fittings are replaced with new ones and re-assembled to match the original specification. The cylinder is then placed into our 5,000 ton test stand and run through a series of static tests to assure you that
the cylinder is in optimum operating condition.
Our test facility includes the following products and services:
- Test Stand
- 5,000 ton force
- hydraulic table
- 65” diameter x 57” high throat or test area

Service Guide has one of the largest test stands in the United States. Our test stand has the capacity to operate up to 10,000 psi. Depending on your specific needs, our test stand has a maximum capacity of 5,000 tons exerted force.
Hydraulic roll force cylinders must be maintained to ensure their continued speed and accuracy. In normal service, they should be removed, inspected and tested every three to four years to ensure optimum performance. Of course, if they have been damaged or are leaking oil, they must be repaired and rebuilt.
